What Are Aging Hands?
Aging hands refer to the collection of structural and skin-quality changes that develop over time due to intrinsic aging, environmental exposure, and collagen depletion. Unlike other areas of the body, the hands are exposed daily to ultraviolet radiation, weather fluctuations, frequent washing, and repetitive movement, all of which contribute to accelerated visible aging.
As collagen, elastin, and subcutaneous volume diminish, the skin on the hands often becomes thinner and less resilient. Veins, tendons, and bony structures may appear more prominent, while pigmentation changes and crepey skin texture can create an overall aged appearance. These changes typically occur gradually, though sun exposure and genetics can significantly influence both severity and timing.
