What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by persistent facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels, and varying degrees of skin sensitivity or inflammation. The condition most commonly affects the central face, including the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, though symptoms and severity can differ significantly from one patient to another.
While the exact cause of rosacea remains complex and multifactorial, contributing factors may include vascular hypersensitivity, inflammation, genetics, immune system dysregulation, environmental triggers, and impaired skin barrier function. Certain lifestyle and environmental factors, such as sun exposure, heat, alcohol, spicy foods, stress, and harsh skincare products,s may also contribute to symptom flare-ups.
Rosacea can range from mild intermittent redness to more persistent vascular visibility and inflammatory outbreaks. In some patients, symptoms may progress gradually over time if left unmanaged.
